A member of the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences Class of 2016, film composer Lesley Barber writes music marked by intelligence and emotional depth. She has scored a string of award-winning and highly acclaimed projects, including Kenneth Lonergan’s multi-award-winning and Oscar-nominated film, Manchester by the Sea.

A multi-instrumentalist, conductor and pianist, Lesley’s interest in modern electronic programming, loops, and effects adds dimension to her work, creating hybrid atmospheric scores with lush orchestration with an innate ability to bring the essential to light and avoid the cliché.

Her distinguished list of credits include Lonergan’s Oscar-winning You Can Count On Me; Jerry Rothwell’s award-winning documentary How To Change The World; Patricia Rozema’s Mansfield Park; Mira Nair’s Golden Globe winning Hysterical Blindness; Mary Harron’s Moth Diaries; the children’s classic Little Bear with Maurice Sendak; Yo-Yo Ma: Six Gestures; Boaz Yakin's Price Above Rubies; Wiebke Von Carolsfeld’s Marion Bridge; and the recently released powerhouse doc The Apology by Tiffany Hsiung.

Other recent films include: a remake of the film Beaches; Attiya Khan’s award-winning documentary A Better Man; Boarding School, a horror adventure film written directed by Boaz Yakin; the Netflix premiere of Irreplaceable You, directed by Stephanie Laing; and the Haifaa Al-Mansour directed Nappily Ever After, starring Sanaa Lathan.

Lesley’s current films include the upcoming American Woman, produced by Killer Films and directed by Semi Chellas; Late Night starring Emma Thompson and Mindy Kaling, directed by Nisha Ganatra; and Lauren Greenfield's Fantasy Island.

Lesley is a proud and active member of the Alliance for Women Film Composers, which has taken a leading role in the much-publicized diversity conversation now occurring in Hollywood. She has a passion for good food, great cities and interesting company.

Started out as a sound engineer working at Metropolis, Sarm, Olympic and finished (me) off at Abbey Road. I then moved into the industry proper. I did a stint at Mercury, met Def Leppard and hung out with Shovell (M People). It got much better after that working for RCA Records in the glory years, Zig and Zag, Robson and Jerome etc topped off by making multiple cassette copies of Coldplay’s first ever demo for BMG (Publishing A&R). I wish I kept one. After that it was Zomba (fantastic indie) Universal etc. I’ve been with Eclectic for 10 years this year, we have grown massively in that time and I’ve had the pleasure working on some cracking ad campaigns and discovered some extraordinary music for our long form work. Gabe McDonough is one of the most experienced music and branding professionals in the world, orchestrating music strategies for brands like Apple, Ford, Samsung, Coke, LG, Coach and many more.

After creating the music departments at Chicago powerhouse agencies Leo Burnett and DDB and a brief stint at Media Arts Lab in Los Angeles, McDonough joined MAS in 2015.

McDonough has built a reputation for finding and breaking emerging artists through memorable campaigns, including Santigold’s breakthrough “Lights Out” placement in Bud Light Lime commercials, and, more recently, Rachel Platten’s “Fight Song” used in Ford spots. Always looking for non-traditional ways to incorporate music into brand campaigns, McDonough even enlisted Wilco’s Glenn Kotche to “play” faucets for a Delta Faucet commercial.

Named one of Billboard’s “40 Under 40,” McDonough won the 2012 Midem Music Award for best use of a song in a commercial for a Sprint spot featuring a remake of Wilco’s “I’m Always in Love”. Prior to that, AdWeek also recognized one of his spots as one of the “5 Best Ad Songs of All Time.”

Also a musician, McDonough previously served as Governor of the Chicago Chapter of the Recording Academy. He has created and performed music spanning several genres throughout his music career, including electronic/techno (Thick Bricks), blues (Chicago Stone Lightning Band), and indie/experimental (BOAS).

At his current role at MAS, McDonough oversees the West Coast business in original music composition, music supervision and music strategy.
